Media evaluation question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to you full product?

When i think back to my preliminary i see many different changes that have made our movie seem more professional. Also due to the new skills and knowledge gained between the time both were made i feel i have made a big progression from my preliminary task.

Firstly our preliminary task included mistakes such as one of our group members legs being in the way of the shot. This was not noticed during editing showing me how easy it is to make mistakes. This led to lots of time being spent on all parts of the process of our film making to make sure everything was how we wanted.

Here we used one of the special effects learned from using final cut pro x on macs. This shows an improvement in terms of editing skills as we were able to make the investigating officers face more light saturated by using colour correction. This helps to make him a mysterious and powerful character to the audience creating the conventional emotion of suspense. Moreover in the final product we have improved shot types.

Here is an example of an improved establishing shot. On the right is from the preliminary task and the shot had no effect on the audience and did not set the scene very well as i was the main view of the camera. However on the left no one is facing the camera and the audience is able to focus on the settings and be kept on the edge of the seat as it is an establishing shot done specifically for effect. Moreover as the characters backs are to the camera it helps the audience focus on the settings more.

Here shows the improvement in terms of editing as adobe after effects was used to create an interesting way give credits as it makes audience concentrate on the name. This helps the audience pay more attention to the director and want to watch it more as the director is known for good movies. Also an interest in the characters due to the unique way each is presented and the subtle fade seemed suited to a thriller.

Here shows the 180 degree rule being followed just as in our preliminary. This shows that knowledge from back then is still being used but improved suggesting progression.

This has been improved as the shot from our final product was just within the 180 rule showing that we know the rule and can take it to its limits. In the both preliminary we stay well within so we don't confuse the audience.

Overall, I feel as though i have progressed a lot from technology used to shot types and ways to effect the audience and use common conventions as well as editing techniques.
